this is a new year. I will be older.
I will be wiser, this time.
She said...

In an effort to leap into another century, I have decided that for my 30th year I will purchase and master an iPad2, and an iPhone. I will seamlessly integrate the 2 systems and conquer the universe given the tools that make it possible!

This is my promise, this is my vow.

The spring fever

Around November last year I made a pact with myself. Exercise more, eat better, stress less.
I didn't exactly think it would be easy but I thought that with some kind of safety net, perhaps a hand to hold, I would be fine. I made several valiant attempts to join classes at the YMCA, but hitting a regularly scheduled class proved much more difficult with my ever-changing work schedule.

Then one day I saw the poster at the gym for a half marathon training class. I thought "what a terrible idea". And then promptly decided to pay the 4o bones and do the damn thing. This seemed like the perfect solution to my lack of motivation. In one fell swoop I had gained a reason to get out of bed at 4:30am and hustle my way to the gym, and gained a goal to work towards completing. Yes indeed, I would run the Dam to Dam in Des Moines, Iowa on June 5th, 2010.

It is past the middle of May and here I sit, training plans thrown out the window long ago, with 2 weeks to go and a real lack of self confidence. Waking up at such an unholy hour frankly is a terrible idea. Pretending that I'm still in high school, or college for that matter, and can just embark on random strenuous outings without stretching or (gasp) planning has proven to be DUMB! And my current state of fitness leaves many questions about my physical and mental state when I do finally cross the finish line. Make no mistake.... I will finish. I just hope it doesn't take me all day.

The plan as it stands... run regularly, don't worry about time, enjoy the weather, ride my bike. And maybe don't eat cheese with every meal.

Breakfast with an old friend

Headed out to the Waveland Diner. Haven't been there in awhile, but nothing seems to change there so I am guaranteed good service and good food. It is the ideal small town diner, on the corner of a busy intersection in our fair capital city... what could be finer?

Update on the brunch:
Had an egg sandwich. Egg over medium, with cheese and bacon on wheat toast. Extra crispy hashbrowns (with cheese) on the side. And a bottomless mug of tea. Yum. I don't wanna know how many calories were in the deliciousness I shoveled in, all I know is you can't beat a well cooked meal and catching up with an old friend...
